Renesas Electronics Corp. said it will continue to strengthen its efforts to promote its "new integrated SoC platform" as it unveiled its new business strategies.

The semiconductor manufacturer's SoC business unit is seeking a 16 percent average annual growth rate from fiscal year 2010 to fiscal 2012 by developing new products for the SoC market. It also plans to integrate existing partner programs, including SH-Mobile Consortium, SH-Navi Consortium and platform OViA, as well as launch a new partner program for its SoC business.

Renesas' new integrated SoC platform has been divided into three groups : "R-Car" for automotive information systems, "R-Mobile" for mobile devices, and "R-Home" for multimedia applications for the home.

For the R-Mobile SOCs, Renesas aims to combine its application processors for mobile devices and RF technologies with the wireless modem technology it acquired from Nokia to gain market share in the convergence market occupied by netbooks and e-book readers. Its SH-Mobile and EMMA Mobile will be merged to begin product development of two groups: "R-Mobile A" for general-purpose application processors and "R-Mobile U" for built-in modem and camera image signal processors.

Renesas' growth strategies in the R-Car business are to strengthen its SoC product lineup for the rapidly growing mid-range and entry navigation systems by ensuring backward compatibility with software of the high-end navigation systems, reducing system development cost and facilitating development process. It also plans to use enhancements such as gesture recognition to boost its market share. SH-Navi and EMMA Car will focus on three product groups: "R-Car H" for high-end navigation systems, "R-Car M" for mid-range navigation systems and "R-Car E" for entry navigation systems.

Sales of set-top boxes (STBs), which are the focus of Renesas' R-Home business, will be strengthened particularly in China and developing markets. Digital TV sales will be expanded in North America, China and South America. Renesas plans to form two R-Home product groups: "R-Home S" for STBs and the "R-Home T" for DTVs.
