New HVIC choices offer improved noise immunity and performance

Power engineers creating motor and industrial applications (i.e. motor drive inverters, distributed power supplies, telecom system power supplies) benefit from using high-voltage gate driver solutions which offer improved noise immunity and increased performance, while being pin-compatible to solutions currently available.

Fairchild Semiconductor delivers these requirements by offering designers new choices in high voltage gate drive ICs (HVICs), including the FAN7392 (2-input, 2-output/high and low side gate driver with shutdown function), the FAN7393 (1-input, 2-output/half bridge with shutdown and controllable dead time), the FAN73932 (1-input, 2-output / half bridge with shutdown and fixed dead time control) and the FAN73933 (2-input, 2-output/half bridge with controllable dead time).

These devices are members of the FAN739x series which have an innovative common-mode dv/dt noise canceling circuit ensuring stable functioning of the high voltage gate driver under high dv/dt noise circumstances and offering improved noise immunity over other competitive solutions. The devices likewise feature an advanced level shift circuit that gives high-side gate driver operation with negative VS swings of up to -9.8V (at VBS=15V), where Vs is the high voltage floating supply return and VBS is the high side floating supply voltage.

Furthermore, the FAN739x series delivers stable operation over a wide temperature range of -40 to 125 degrees C. The series also possess floating channels for bootstrap operation to +600V, built-in under-voltage lockout for VBS, and matched propagation delay for both channels. These devices also do away with a buffer transistor if compared with other low current HVICs on the market.

Other devices in the series include the FAN7390 (2-input, 2-output/high & low side gate driver), and the FAN73901 (2-input, 2-output/high & low side gate driver). Available in 8-pin DIP, 8-pin SOP, 14-pin SOIC and 16-pin SOIC packages, devices in the series are pin-compatible with existing solutions, making it an ready replacement in almost any design or component.
