Phoenix Solar opens Malaysia subsidiary

Phoenix Solar Pte Ltd in Singapore, a subsidiary of Germany's Phoenix Solar AG, has opened a branch in Malaysia to take advantage of the country's push to develop its renewable energy resources. Phoenix Solar Sdn. Bhd. in Kuala Lumpur, a subsidiary, will offer full turnkey solutions comprising design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of ground-based and rooftop photovoltaic (PV) power plants, as well as building integrated PV systems and off-grid systems.

Phoenix Solar Pte Ltd recently completed a 169kWp rooftop plant at a factory building owned by ixmation Malaysia in Penang. It used CIGS thin-film modules manufactured by Solyndra. In 2009, the company completed a 71 kWp plant on the rooftop of the new Energy Commission of Malaysia's Putrajaya headquarters.

Malaysia plans to raise its renewable energy production from 1 percent to 5.5 percent by 2015.
