Keywords:power discretes? MOSFET? IGBT?

The widespread use of mobile phones and smart phones, consumer electronics, automobiles, and wind and solar power generators will drive up demand for power discretes in the semiconductor industry, which in turn will boost demand for MOSFETs and IGBTs.

GBI Research reported that that OEMs and ODMs are using more modern power discretes in sophisticated phones. China and Taiwan, in particular, are expected to ramp up industrial production due to soaring local and international demand.

The power discrete semiconductor market could see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6 percent in dollar revenue terms during the 2010-20 period. A CAGR of 17.4 percent is expected for the global power discrete semiconductor market.

Consumer electronic devices such as LCD TV sets, portable media players, washing machines, notebooks, uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and battery chargers will account for a large share of the increase in power discrete semiconductor production, according to GBI.
