Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has created what it says is the first-ever 0.5W current sensing resistor in a compact 0805 package size. The WSLP0805 is a new surface-mount power metal strip resistor with a 10-50 milliohms resistance value range and temperature performance up to 170C.

Vishay said the small resistor will allow designers to save space on the circuit board and to design smaller and lighter consumer products. Targeted for the new resistor are computer DC/DC converters, VRMs for laptops, Li-Ion battery safety and management products, and electronic automotive systems such as engine controls, multimedia electronics, climate controls, and anti-lock brakes.

The WSLP0805 has an all-welded construction with a solid metal nickel-chrome or manganese-copper alloy resistive element. The inductance values range from 0.5nH to 5nH while the frequency response is 50MHz and thermal EMF is below 3?V per degree Celsius.
