Microtune Inc. marked a milestone with the shipment of 7.5 million wideband tuners for use in Docsis 3.0-based devices, which signals the strong growth of the Docsis/EuroDocsis 3.0 technology market.

James A. Fontaine, president and chief executive officer of Microtune, said the achievement shows that the Docsis 3.0 specification has "proven a significant catalyst for cable market growth and innovation, and it continues to transform the worldwide industry."

Cable equipment suppliers with Docsis 3.0 equipment tap Microtune for its MT2170 wideband tuner and its companion product, the MT1570 wideband upstream amplifier, to add high-speed Internet access to their networks. Data-only cable modems and voice-and-data routers to high-end IPTV gateways are just a few that use Microtune wideband tuners, which give them downstream data rates of at least 160Mb/s and upstream data rates of 120Mb/s or higher.
