Samsung chooses Atmel maXTouch solution for Galaxy

Atmel Corp. announced that Samsung Electronics is using the Atmel maXTouch solution to power the Android-based Galaxy tablet, which has a 7in capacitive touchscreen.

Samsung Electronics principal engineer and team lDongsub Kim says, "After selecting maXTouch solutions for our smaller screen devices, we knew it would be the right choice for Samsung Galaxy Tab. Atmel maXTouch will empower GALAXY Tab users with unlimited touch capabilities and longer battery life, for an overall better experience."

Atmel claims that the maXTouch solution gives higher performance, precise accuracy, faster response times and consumes lower power compared with competing solutions enabling an over all enhanced touch experience. Its true unlimited touch functionality and exquisite performance bring advanced features including rejection of unintended touches, multi-touch stretch/pinch and rotate gestures, and handwriting recognition on larger form factor screens, ranging from mobile Internet devices (MIDs) to netbooks and notebooks.

The maXTouch solution is based on Atmel's proprietary microcontroller technology, incorporated with software algorithms for a more robust touch solution.
