Qualcomm Inc. and Asiaspace WiMAX Sdn. Bhd. have teamed up to deploy Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplex (LTE TDD) technology in Malaysia.

Asiaspace, which is licensed to provide wireless technology services on the 2.3GHz band in Malaysia, signed a non-binding agreement with Qualcomm, whose portfolio includes products with integrated baseband and RF supporting LTE TDD.

Asiaspace's Datuk Abdul Ghani Bin Abdullah said while the company's vision is to "offer the best wireless experience to the customerregardless of the type of technology," LTE TDD is ideal for Malaysia "by allowing us to stay within the boundaries of mainstream wireless technologies and interoperate with 3G and 2G networks." He added that "Asiaspace will be able to enjoy the cost benefits of scale and tap into the massive subscriber base that already exists within the cellular mobile world."
