More vision and vision-guided systems are being deployed in industries due to declining costs, according to Frost & Sullivan.

The research firm said that the growing availability of low-cost high-end computing systems and the declining cost of computer memory are helping to reduce the acquisition cost of such industrial automation systems, which are needed for such tasks as quality assurance, part selection and defect detection.

Nevertheless, there is still a need for improvements such as in imaging resolution, rate of image acquisition, and speed of data processing.

Frost & Sullivan notes that the latest vision systems are highly evolved and more sophisticatedproviding highly accurate 3D shape information in near real time, and allowing for strict quality control measures and intelligent system control.
