Right angle LVDT position sensors for harsh environments

Macro Sensors now offers right angle configurations of its spring-loaded and through-bore LVDT position sensors. These devices are targeted for industrial applications when a conventional LVDT position sensor proves too long or environmental contaminants can limit sensor performance.

LVDTS manufactured with a radially-mounted electrical connector are shorter than those with axial connectors. Additionally, the bending radius of the mating cable does not add to the length. As a result, the installed length of the LVDT position sensors is at least 2in shorter than comparable units with an axially mounted connector for easier installation in tight spaces.

The radially-mounted electrical connector also enables through-bore operation which makes the right angle LVDT accessible from both ends for easier mechanical support and core guidance than with blind-bore units. Moreover, through-bore design stops debris from getting trapped inside the LVDT body for longer and more accurate operation. Open at both ends, LVDTs may be easily cleaned of dirt or other contaminants for greater reliability and longer life.

Macro Sensors right angle LVDT position sensors are rated for operation in temperatures up to 105C. Hermetically sealed versions, constructed entirely of stainless steel with coil windings sealed against hostile environments to IEC standard IP-68, are able to withstand pressures up to 1000psi. With availability in both AC and DC configurations, DC-operated units utilize built-in electronics to yield the desirable features of an LVDT, such as frictionless operation and dynamic response, with the added convenience and simplicity of DC input and pre-calibrated DC output.

The LVDT position sensors are ideal for position measurement in hostile environments containing caustic/corrosive materials or with extreme temperature variations. Such devices are used in displacement measurement applications for automotive factories, forges and foundries, metal fabricating machinery, paper and plastic film plants, sawmills, process automation applications, hydraulic cylinder and all types of motion control systems.
