MIPS Technologies Inc. reports that IUNIKA SA has licensed its Coherent Processing Systems (CPS) for the development of its next-generation mobile computing devices. These include eco-friendly e-books, laptops and netbooks.

The license includes the multi-threaded, multiprocessing MIPS321004KfCPS and the new superscalar MIPS32 1074KfCPS. IUNIKA's consumer products are focused on environmental protection and education. In its next-generation family of mobile computing platforms, IUNIKA will leverage its patented parental control technology that is implemented in hardware, as well as its patented multi-platform software technology that offers end users the flexibility to run software originally designed for other processor architectures.

"MIPS Technologies is offering us two paths to multicore performance in our next generation products, with the 1004K and 1074K CPS." said Angel Blazquez, CEO, IUNIKA. "The cores will enable us to create a compelling lineup of computing products superior in value, eco-friendliness and utility for educational purposes than any of our competitors. Our devices will benefit from the technical advantages of the MIPS architecture, as well as the broad ecosystem of support built around it."

"Innovative companies are increasingly looking to MIPS Technologies for mobile device development because of the advantages we can provide in terms of performance, power consumption and cost," noted Art Swift, VP of marketing and business development, MIPS Technologies.

According to research firm In-Stat, mobile computing demand continues to grow because of sleeker designs, new form factors, and pent-up business demand. The company sees mobile computing devices, including tablets, netbooks and smartbooks, and notebook PCs, growing at 19.1 percent CAGR through 2014, accounting for over 400 million units.
