Samsung has tapped RF Micro Devices (RFMD) to provide three highly integrated components for its Wi-Fi-enabled Galaxy Tab, a tablet packing a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 and running Android that is seen as a major rival of the Apple iPad.

RFMD said it will supply Samsung with the RF5521 front end module, which consists of an LNA with bypass and a single-pole three throw switch, for the low-band 2.4GHz frequency; the RF5515 LNA; and the RF5355 power amplifier for the high-band 5GHz frequency.

The company added that it has begun volume shipments to Samsung and expects more orders for RF devices from the South Korean manufacturer of portable computing and consumer electronics.

Samsung's first Galaxy Tab, released in September, was a 7in model but a 10in model is reportedly set to appear in 2011.
