International Rectifier has added three new members to its SupIRBuck family of integrated point-of-load (POL) voltage regulators, saying they offer better efficiency and functionality.

IR said it combined a high-performance controller with latest generation IR MOSFETs to create the IR3837M, IR3838M and IR3839M voltage regulators and trackers, which are available in a 5mm x 6mm PQFN package. They output 14A, 10A and 6A, respectively, and boast of more than 96 percent peak efficiency.

Key features include single rail input voltage of 4.5V to 16V, external reference for margining purposes, internal digital soft-start, and external synchronization to reduce noise and EMI in multi-rails systems. They are also configurable for DDR memory tracking or sequencing and offer Power Good output for under-voltage and over-voltage detection with tracking capability.

Precise regulation is made possible by a plus or minus 1 percent accurate 0.6V reference in 0-125C temperature range while a 5V external bias option is available to improve light load efficiency.

The devices operate on 12V input current, eliminating the traditional dual-stage POL conversion but IR said 9.6V, 5V or 3.3V input voltages also offer superior efficiencies.
