Low-light MP sensors in 360-view auto reference design

Xilinx Inc. is using OmniVision Technologies Inc.'s OV9715 automotive-grade megapixel sensor in its four-camera, 360 surround view automotive reference design to take advantage of its improved clarity, image distortion correction and stitching capability.

Designed for the highly demanding automotive and sensing applications markets, the OV9715 features a 3?m OmniPixel3-HS pixel that gives the best-in-class low light sensitivity of 3300mV/lux-sec. Xilinx said the OV9715 can operate in virtually any lighting condition.

Available in a lead-free 48-pin QFP package that can operate in a temperature range of -40C to +85C and is Automotive Electronics Council-Q100 qualified, the OV9715 is a 1/4in sensor that provides full-frame, sub-sampled or windowed 8-bit/10-bit images in RGB RAW format via the digital video port.

Xilinx said users have complete control over image quality, formatting and output data transfer as it integrates image processing functions, including exposure control, gain control, white balance, lens correction and defective pixel correction. The serial camera control bus interface may also be used to control the functions.
