Panasonic's PLC technology ratified in the IEEE 1901 standard

The IEEE 1901 standard documents will be officially released in the start of 2011.

Particularly, the technology permitting Panasonic's PLC technology to coexist with other PLC technologies proposed by the two companies in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Powerline Communication Alliance (CEPCA), formed part of the approval. Previous to its IEEE 1901 approval, this coexistence technology was already approved in June of this year for ITU-T G.9972, the coexistence mechanism for wireline home networking transceivers.

The approved technology, Panasonic's proprietary Wavelet OFDM, is utilized in products that accommodate Panasonic's HD-PLC high-speed power line communication technology. The technology brings an environmentally friendly characteristic to realize lower power consumption and lower costs through a highly efficient data transmission.

Panasonic has already concluded the development and licensing of the technology used as the basis for the approved IEEE 1901 standard. Meanwhile, the company sustains its work through organizations such as the HD-PLC Alliance to guarantee the interoperability of devices which adhere to the IEEE 1901 standard, and it is also promoting the widespread adoption of PLC as a global standard.
