IDT said the 5T90008 features temperature compensation for improved system accuracy over a wide temperature range, making it ideal for applications such as energy meters and telecommunications systems. The clock measures the temperature at 64- second intervals and adjusts the loading of the internal crystal whenever needed, providing an accuracy of plus or minus 5ppm from -40C to 85C.
Another member of the family, the IDT 5T90012, does not have the temperature compensation feature but offers a tamper-detect functionality to prevent hacking. It is ideal for applications such as utility metering, HVAC, point-of-sale terminals, security alarms, vending machines, and security-related equipment and systems.
Both models can detect tampering using four tamper detect pins that store the time and length of the event. They also offer 128B of battery-backed RAM for the storage of critical system data in case of loss of main power. A back-up battery pin contains power-sense circuitry to detect a loss of primary power and automatically switch to the backup supply.
