New CFL driver ICs enable better power management, longer lifetimes

NXP Semiconductors N.V. has unveiled two new CFL drivers IC utilizing its GreenChip technology. The company says the new CFL drivers offer better quality light, faster warm-up, minimal switching losses, low-power standby and longer product lifetime.

The UBA2211, a new generation of non-dimmable CFL driver ICs for 230V and 110V fluorescent lamps, consists of a fully integrated CFL driver with a current controlled preheat function. It is said to stretch CFL lifetimes up to 15,000 hours. The second new CFL driver, the UBA2024B, is said to be the first with integrated switches designed for 110V fluorescent lamps.

The UBA2211 family of high-voltage monolithic ICs for driving CFL in half-bridge configurations offer easy integration of lamp loads various burner power and mains voltages. The family consists of the UBA2211 generic controller for 230V/110V markets driving external power switches, the 230V UBA2211A for CFL lamp power up to 11W, the UBA2211B for up to 18W, and the UBA2211C for up to 23W. Key features include adjustable current-controlled preheat mode technology and an "exceptionally small" form factor.

The UBA2024B, meanwhile, extends the UBA2024 product family to six driver IC types. The UBA2024B offers space-saving design, increased efficiency, extended burner lifetimes, and pin-to-pin compatibility with other family members.
