Marvell Technology claims that ARM-based servers are ready for the big time, however it will take some time for the technology to become mainstream.

The company has launched a server equipped with a 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex A9 chip. The Armada XP enterprise-class server chip targets a wide range of systems, from low-power Web servers for business to network-attached storage and media servers for the digital home.

For Marvell, one of the biggest users of ARM processors, competing against the traditional server architectures will be a challenge. The traditional technologies include systems based on x86, Power, Sparc and other processors.
