Renesas Electronics Corp.'s RX600 series of 32-bit MCUs has three new groups designed for a wide range of applications: the RX630 group for consumer, office automation, and industrial equipment, and the RX63N/RX631 groups for networked equipment.

The MCUs retain the CPU performance and speed of 165 DMIPS (Dhrystone version 2.1) at 100MHz present in the preceding RX62N, RX621, and RX62T MCU groups but the memory range now range from 256KB to 2MB of on-chip zero wait-state flash memory, as well as 16KB to 128 KB of SRAM.

Their packages have also changed, ranging from 64 pins to 177 pins in sizes starting at 7x7mm with pin compatibility between like packages for easy migration of designs.

Key features include low voltage operation of 2V for the RTC; communication and TFT display functions using a USB 2.0 device interface; extensive lineup of memory, package and other variations; and comprehensive hardware/software tool set from the company and third parties, including High-Performance Embedded Workshop IDE and C/C++.
