Renesas Electronics and SYSGO have agreed to jointly develop basic software supporting CPU virtualization technology for real-time control applications using Renesas' V850 CPU core microcontrollers and SYSGO's PikeOS hybrid OS.

Renesas intends to develop new functions required for the efficient operation of virtualization software enabling high-speed real-time control and improving the usability of the software development environment, incorporating these functions into MCUs with the V850 CPU core.

SYSGO, meanwhile, will port its PikeOS hybrid OS, which enables multiple OSes to run simultaneously on a single CPU, to the V850 core to provide virtualization support. PikeOS, which has a microkernel architecture, will be tested in actual automotive and other applications and SYSGO will provide feedback to Renesas.

The companies said the basic software to be developed will include support for the envisioned ISO 26262 functional safety standard and provide security functionality such as support for MILS and EAL.
