An optocoupler from Avago Technologies promises to provide robust electrical signal isolation as an intelligent power module interface or IGBT gate drive in wind turbines, renewable energy harvesting sites and other industrial control applications.

The ACNV4506 is available in a 500 mil 10-pin dual-inline package, as well as a gull wing lead option for standard surface-mount processes, with both offering 13mm creepage and clearance compliant with the IEC60664-1 standard.

Avago said the device package boosts isolation performance with minimum common-mode rejection of 30kV/?s, leading to smoother control with less torque ripple in motor control applications.

The device, which can tolerate temperatures from -40C to +105C, is also ideal for AC and brushless DC motor drives and industrial inverters.

The ACNV4506 provides high electrical specifications for comprehensive safety approvals, with input-output withstand voltage of 7,500Vrms for 1min for UL 1577-compliance and working voltage (Viorm) of 2,262V peak for IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5 approval. The device, which is also CSA approved, delivers high insulating voltages that make it suitable for applications with 690V power main voltages.

The packages also ensure distance through insulation of 2mm, as required under EN50178 regulatory standards. Short maximum propagation delays of 200ns~400ns result in short dead time, improved efficiency, and precise motion.
