Samsung LTE handset adopts Skyworks amplifier modules

Skyworks announced that the Samsung Craft�the first US LTE mobile handset�integrates power amplifier modules from Skyworks.

The Samsung Craft, or SCH-R900, recently launched by MetroPCS in Las Vegas, features a full touch screen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, WiFi connectivity and a full HTML Web browser.

It uses the SKY77702 and SKY77703 power amplifier modules, which are "fully matched" 10-pad surface mount modules designed for wideband LTE applications. Samsung said they are small and highly efficient modules with full 1850MHz-1910MHz (SKY77702) and 1710-1785 MHz (SKY77703) bandwidth coverage, delivering "unsurpassed" talk-time due to high efficiencies attained throughout the entire power range. Each module integrates a directional coupler, eliminating the need for an external coupler, and comply with the strict spectral linearity requirements of LTE data transmission with high power added efficiency.

The on-board bias circuitry and input and interstage matching circuits are contained in a single GaAs microwave monolithic circuit. Output match into a 50-ohm load is realized off-chip within the device packages to maximize efficiency and power performance.

Skyworks manufactures the modules using its indium gallium phosphide heterojunction bipolar transistor bipolar field effect transistor process to provide for all positive voltage DC supply operation while maintaining high efficiency and good linearity.
