Spansion Inc. launched a single die 2Gbit NOR Flash memory product, the 2Gb Spansion GL-S. The solution supports high-quality, interactive 2D and 3D graphics, animation and video in games, learning devices and automotive infotainment and instrumentation clusters.

As the industry evolves from flat 2D images to real-time 3D for gaming, consumer and automotive applications, Spansion's high-density NOR Flash memory with its high-speed random read performance is a key element which improves the user's experience. The 2Gb Spansion GL-S is a remarkable NOR product of this density on the market; based on Spansion's proprietary MirrorBit charge-trapping technology.

Principal analyst for the Enderle Group, Rob Enderle observed, "The gaming and embedded entertainment markets are making a huge transition to ever richer 3D media which requires higher capacities and increased performance. The availability of a high density NOR Flash memory for these markets directly addresses these capacity and performance needs, significantly increasing the consumer interest in the related products."
