Motorola Inc.'s Motorola Solutions business and Kopin Corp. have signed an agreement to jointly develop a hands-free computer and communications headset that would form part of a wearable computer revolving around Kopin's advanced system and micro-display technologies.

The envisioned headset will be equipped with full voice, audio and PC capabilities that would complement a virtual 15-inch monitor that supports simulation software, streaming video on-demand and other large-screen enterprise applications.

Aside from hands-free remote control and instant access to digital information and broadcast programming, the wearable computer would also deliver access to the Internet and other services such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi video streaming, providing simultaneous real-time interface with multiple mobile devices, servers and networks.

A gesture- and voice-recognition-based user interface will be used to control the system.

Kopin expects to provide development kits to software application developers and select Motorola enterprise and public safety customers by January 2011.
