Advanced memory solutions specialist, Integrated Silicon Solution, Inc., has just announced that it is working with Micron Technology, Inc. to be an alternate supplier of Micron's third-generation reduced-latency DRAM (RLDRAM 3 memory). The RLDRAM 3 memory would further expand ISSI's growing family of networking products. RLDRAM 3 memory offers a long-term solution for high-bandwidth, reduced-latency memory needs that are being demanded by networking standards such as 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE).

Recently, the IEEE ratified the P802.3ba standard for 100GbE to assist enterprise customers and service providers respond to requirements for greater bandwidth. Such bandwidth demand is being driven by applications such as cloud computing, and Internet-based video services such as IPTV, Video on Demand and telepresence. In order to accommodate the high line rates of these applications, high-bandwidth and reduced-latency memory is needed.

RLDRAM 3 memory offers data rates up to 2133Mb/s and a remarkably low random access latency with a tRC of sub 10-nanoseconds. Furthermore, a Multibank Write feature permits RLDRAM 3 to address sub 2.5ns READ tRC. Greater energy efficiency is likewise realized through familiar 1.2V IO and 1.35V core voltage levels.

Meanwhile, ISSI's major networking customers have exhibited a tremendous amount of interest in ISSI as an alternative supplier for RLDRAM 3 memory. ISSI director of strategic marketing, Pat Lasserre explains, "By working closely with Micron we will be able to service our customers' requests to provide RLDRAM 3 memory. We are excited to be able to address our customers' demands for a high-bandwidth, reduced-latency memory that is being driven by networking standards such as 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE)."
