Toshiba Corp. has just unveiled a strategy and product line-up for the ASEAN TV market. For the incoming year, Toshiba shall enhance its presence throughout ASEAN by deploying a new line-up of LCD TVs specifically designed for the region.

Toshiba chose Singapore as its headquarters for its Asian TV business in April 2010. Since then, it has channeled major resources in the development of an optimum business strategy as well as products for the ASEAN.

VP of Visual Products Company, Toshiba Corporation (Japan), Mr. Shigenori Tokumitsu cites, "Our business is global, but we recognize that different regions have different characteristics and requirements. Toshiba's visual products enjoy a long-standing reputation for quality in the ASEAN region, and we are more than confident that we can further contribute to our customers in this important market with leading-edge products that feature functions and capabilities they want."

Toshiba estimates reflect 2009's global market of 142 million units growing to 200 million units in 2012, an average annual growth rate of 12 percent. Meanwhile, its recorded global unit sales of 10 million units in FY2009, ended March 2010. The company aims to significantly ramp up that figure this year as it positions growth in the ASEAN economies to be the cornerstone of its strategy. Toshiba likewise aims to attains sales for over 1.2 million TV units for ASEAN market in FY2011, translating into about 20 percent market share.

As part of its strategy, Toshiba shall introduce three new series of TVs: The 55ZL800 flagship model, the 3D LED TV series and the Power TV series. The Flagship TV C 55ZL800 is a 55in model inspired by the CELL REGZA TV, introduced to the Japanese market. The series features Toshiba's CEVO Engine, a high-performance multi-processor platform with high image and sound quality and sharp, realistic 3D. The 3D LED TV C REGZA WL700 is a series of slim LED TVs in 46in and 55in models. Designed in a collaboration between Toshiba's in-house design team and Jacob Jensen Design, the WL700 series features a minimalist design in glass and metal. The series measures only 29mm deep and displays a bezel-free screen. The Power TV series includes LED TVs with integrated battery back-up. Once fully charged, the incorporated battery can power the TV for about 2 hours.
