Various audio improvements have been integrated into STMicroelectronics' TS4604 stereo audio amplifier, including a 100mW stereo headphone output and a driver for the audio Line Out connection of LCD and plasma television sets, STBs, PVRs, Blu-ray players, and PC-audio products such as sound cards.

The newly introduced stereo amplifier also features low operating power and dedicated shutdown control per function, as well as a self muting feature to prevent audible pops and clicks whenever the supply voltage dips.

The TS4604 integrates charge-pump circuitry that supplies negative voltage to the amplifiers and allows designers to use only one 3V to 4.8V external power supply to sustain the amplifier's output signal, which can be up to 2Vrms at the line driver output. A high-voltage power supply for the Line Out circuitry and DC blocking capacitors are also unnecessary, resulting in space-saving design and reduced cost.

The TS4604, available in a halogen-free 28-pin TSSOP package, features a 5mA quiescent current, 1uA shutdown current; 30ms wake-up, and 90dB power supply rejection ratio on headset and line driver outputs.
