Strong growth seen in military radar market

The 2010 global market for military radar systems will amount to $9.248 billion, according to a report from Visiongain. The report, which analyses the market over the 2010-2020 period, indicates that the acquisition and maintenance of radar systems will remain an integral part of defense planning and procurement despite budget cuts by national governments.

Visiongain stresses that military radar systems are crucial to the capabilities of armed forces as they help gather intelligence, identify threats and locate objects on the battlefield. They also help militaries monitor airspace, exclusive economic zones and coastal regions.

A wide range of technologies is used in military radar systems, the report adds. Such radar systems are equipped with capabilities such as active electronically scanned array radars, phased array radars, weapons-locating radars, missile defense systems and imaging satellites.
