Digital Video Systems AG, a manufacturer of hardware and software for professional film and video postproduction, has been acquired as a subsidiary of the Rohde & Schwarz group of companies.

DVS was the first company to offer workstations that made real time processing of uncompressed 4K resolution digital film possible. It was founded in 1985 and now has 110 employees.

In the film industry, the conversion of enormous amounts of digital film data to other formats is subject to even higher requirements than in the broadcasting industry. Complex algorithms ensure that data encoding and decoding is performed at highest resolutions and at maximum speed, with no loss in quality.

Jrgen Nies, head of the broadcasting division, Rohde & Schwarz, expressed confidence that Rohde & Schwarz will benefit "from the transfer of valuable technology from the studio to broadcasting." He added that they are "keen on DVS continuing to grow on its own" and the worldwide sales network of Rohde & Schwarz in more than 70 countries "will help bring DVS products to the global market even more intensively."

The existing structures at DVS's Hanover location and the other DVS subsidiaries will be retained and it will continue to use the Digital Video Systems AG name.
