Cavium Networks introduces TurboDPI, an off-the-shelf multi-function security software solution optimized for OCTEON II processors.

TurboDPI uses the company's patent pending Uniscan technology that is incorporated in all multi-core OCTEON II processors to simultaneously block malicious or inappropriate URLs, identify hundreds of widely used protocols and applications, help block thousands of different intrusion attempts and locate over a hundred thousand varieties of virus and malware threats, all with just a single scan of the data stream, enabling the highest performance at up to 40Gbit/s.

The rise of cloud-based services, SaaS and social networking that ride over Port 80 has made it imperative to have the ability to inspect content at wire speed for many products lines. The complexities of adding just one DPI related application, let alone adding multiple DPI functions has been a daunting task to some customers. Now with TurboDPI, OEMs can more easily integrate DPI to enable a variety of features such as protocol analysis, application recognition, intrusion prevention, anti-malware protection, URL Filtering, unified threat management, antivirus gateways, subscriber charging, application aware QOS and service level agreements, usage monitoring and preventing denial of service.

"Demand for deep strong security in the service provider and Enterprise segments is strong. Our research shows that nearly all service providers are increasing Web and content security gateways to protect cloud-based services, SaaS and the ballooning global population of mobile devices," noted Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research Inc. "Enterprises and service providers will spend more than $6.9 billion on network security in 2014, with integrated security appliances accounting for more than two-thirds of that spending."

Tech highlights
Cavium's TurboDPI solution is composed of carrier-grade, deep packet inspection software which can be used inline or out of band to detect hundreds of protocols including Internet (HTTP, FTP etc), Email (IMAP, POP3, SMTP etc.), Web 2.0 (Facebook, Myspace, etc), Multimedia (Flash, Quicktime, Youtube, etc), Peer to Peer (Bittorrent, eDonkey, etc) and Voice and Messaging (Skype, GoogleTalk, Yahoo, etc).

Cavium's TurboDPI software is highly flexible, easily upgradeable and fully customizable using a number of configurable detection engines for signature, heuristics and ports and also supports flow based detection. It is easily extensible via customer plug-ins during design stage or in the field.

OEM customers can use their own in-house signatures and rules or combine with best of breed anti-malware technology providers such as Kaspersky Lab to create a single solution for protocol analysis, application recognition, URL filtering, intrusion prevention and anti-malware.

TurboDPI is available as a binary executable or source code to manufacturers of networking, wireless and storage infrastructure equipment.

A range of hardware modules preconfigured to run TurboDPI in PCIe, AMC and intelligent network interface cards form factors will also be available.

The Cavium Networks TurboDPI solution is available immediately.
