Protocol analyzer eases DDR3 memory system design

The Summit T3-8 protocol analyzer is compatible with all previous PCIe application specific probes and interposers. It includes the same PETracer Software included on LeCroy's other PCIe protocol analysis systems to enable data analysis views such as: LTSSM/Substate View; Hierarchical Views; BitTracer Views; Data View ; Flow Control Views; and Configuration Space Views.

Perpendicular mounting
The 90 Degree Server Interposer for the Summit PCIe line of Protocol Analyzers solves the problem of tapping PCIe 3.0 signals that are transmitted between an add-in card and the riser card mounted in the narrow I/O compartment of 1U and 2U rack servers. It is based on the company's Transparent Acquisition Probing (T.A.P.3) technology for PCIe 3.0, which was introduced on the Summit T3-16 product line in 2010. Suited for 1U and 2U server testing, the PCIe connector is mounted perpendicular to the surface of the interposer, instead of attached at the top, so that add-in cards can be easily connected to the interposer without interference by the internal structure of the chassis. The interposer supports connectivity to full height or standard size add-in cards.

Adding functionality
The PCIe Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) Interposer introduced by LeCroy at DesignCon2011 supports PCIe data rates up to 5GT/s (PCIe 2.0). It is designed for use with the LeCroy Summit PCIe Protocol Analyzers, extending their ability to analyze data traffic between AMC mezzanine cards and their respective host systems into much higher data rates than previous products.

The AMC cards are modular add-in cards that attach to a carrier board or backplane to add additional functionality (such as I/O). AMC is considered the telecommunication industry's mezzanine standard and has been extended to supporting PCIe 2.0 in both AdvancedTCA as well as MicroTCA systems. In the past, the tight physical tolerances between compact AMC mezzanine cards and host systems slots have made it difficult to probe protocol traffic over the AMC interface. The new interposer makes it easy to tap into the data traffic, while maintaining signal integrity by re-driving all data signals. This lets the equipment under test function normally while data traffic is analyzed and any protocol problems are quickly identified and solved.
