Renesas Mobile Corp. announced that, together with Nokia Siemens Networks, it will be demonstrating an end-to-end Long Term Evolution (LTE) solution using the 1.8GHz spectrum at Mobile World Congress 2011 from Feb. 14-17, 2011.

The demonstration will feature commercial base station equipment from Nokia Siemens Networks and Renesas Mobile's test platform using a highly integrated LTE triple-mode modem. The solution conforms to 3GPP radio performance requirements, and shows that LTE1800 will soon be made commercially available.

Most of the initial focus in LTE development has been in the use of newly allocated frequency bands and has overlooked the importance of reusing existing spectrum. The 1.8GHz band, which is widely used today for GSM, is becoming a key band for LTE deployments. It is particularly well suited to be used for high capacity and high throughput broadband wireless networks, as many operators have significant bandwidth on the band,

allowing 20MHz configurations.
