Samsung selects RFMD parts for 3G/4G phones, tablets

Samsung Electronics is using RF Micro Devices Inc.'s PowerSmart power platform and WiFi components for the Galaxy S 2 smart phone and Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet PC, according to RFMD. Both feature RFMD's PowerSmart, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will also feature RFMD's RF5521 WiFi front end module (FEM).

PowerSmart power platforms feature an RF Configurable Power Core that delivers multiband, multimode coverage of all cellular communications modulation schemes, including 2G, 3G and 4G, up to LTE 64QAM. It also include the switching and signal conditioning functionality needed in a compact reference design, providing smart phone manufacturers a single scalable source for the entire cellular front end.

RFMD's RF5521 WiFi FEM meets smart phone and tablet manufacturers' requirements for aggressive size reductions in 802.11b/g/n front end solutions, while delivering linear output power and reducing the number of components outside the core connectivity chipset.

Shipments of RFMD's PowerSmart power platforms and high-performance WiFi components are expected to increase sequentially throughout the year.
