Micrel LDOs target handheld instruments

Micrel Inc. rolls a family of triple low dropout regulators (LDOs) aimed at battery-powered electronic applications. The MIC5373/83/74/84 series features three 200mA LDOs, an optional fourth LDO output for a real time clock (RTC), integrated power on reset, user-defined voltage monitoring capabilities, adjustable POR delay time and manual reset.

The MIC5374/84 is the full featured version, which also includes an ultra low quiescent current LDO for powering real time clocks. It offers designers quiescent current of 8?A, real time clock support, transient response of 40mV, low noise and a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) for powering sensitive RF circuitry like GPS.

The MIC537x family is a?Cap LDO design operating with very small ceramic output capacitors, which additionally reduces required board space. This series offers full protection circuitry including current limit and thermal shutdown protection, and an operating junction temperature range of -40C to 125C, for applications include smart phones, personal navigation devices, portable media players, DSCs, notebooks, personal digital assistants and other handheld instruments.

The MIC5374/84 comes in a 2.5mm x 2.5mm Thin MLF package at 45 cents for 1,000-unit quantities. The MIC5373/83 is available with pricing starting at 39 cents for 1,000-unit quantities. Samples can now be ordered.
