While China could not invest in Taiwan for many years, Taiwan has long poured billions of dollars into China.

A new investment climate will soon prevail in Taiwan. The island's Ministry of Economic Affairs recently announced Taiwan's decision to allow China to invest in its various industries, including its profitable chip and LCD sectors.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, China will be allowed to invest in the following sectors in Taiwan: IC manufacturing, semiconductor packaging, IC testing, LCDs, metal cutting machine tools, semiconductor manufacturing machinery, among other areas.

There are some restrictions. ''Shareholding ratio should not exceed 10 percent,'' according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. ''Land and capital must be below 50 percent of the shareholding ratio.''
