SEMI announces the availability of the Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (SEMS) Report for 2010. The report notes that worldwide sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment totaled $39.54 billion in 2010, a record year-over-year increase of 148 percent over 2009 sales of $15.92 billion.

The SEMS is a summary of the monthly billings and bookings figures for the global semiconductor equipment industry based on data from members of SEMI and the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ).

The report covers seven major semiconductor producing regions and 24 product categories, including wafer processing, assembly and packaging, test, and other front-end equipment. Other front-end includes mask/reticle manufacturing, wafer manufacturing, and fab facilities equipment.

According to the SEMS, spending increased by double-digits to triple-digits, with China and Korea as growth leaders. Taiwan, for the second year in a row, had the highest amount of spending with $11.19 billion in equipment sales, followed by Korea with $8.33 billion in sales.

The report also says that the global wafer processing equipment market segment increased 149 percent; the assembly and packaging segment increased 176 percent, the total test equipment sales increased 167 percent. Other front end equipment sales grew by 78 percent.
