Infineon Technologies expands its ISOFACE digital input product family with the ISO1I811T and ISO1I813T devices targeting industrial control and automation systems.

The two devices offer an integrated galvanic isolation of 500VAC (EN60664-1, UL508). They are based on the technology used in the company's ISOFACE line, and achieve robust galvanic isolation between the inputs of a control system on the one-hand and the microcontroller or bus ASIC on the other-hand. The inputs include sensors and switches.

The devices claim a high level of functional integration and energy-efficiency that make them suitable for compact and cost-efficient industrial control solutions such as input cards or sensor modules. Compared with alternative solutions they are said to enable up to four times more channels on the same PCB area.

The devices can sample information from multiple digital sources in the automation system and transfer it to the CPU at communication frequencies up to 500kHz, substantially exceeding the traditional solutions which depend on opto-couplers, making them suited for applications like bottling machines or paper producing and printing equipment.

EMI robustness of the control systems is improved with programmable deglitching filters in each of the 8 inputs (according to IEC61131-2 / Type 1/2/3) of an ISO1I813T.

In addition, the product's channel-specific diagnostic capability supports detection of failures like input wire-break between a sensor and an IC input. The device's supply voltage on the input side is monitored and in case of failures a two-staged warning signal is being sent to the CPU; thus greatly improving factory level maintenance and minimizing costly factory-floor down-times.

Samples of the new ISOFACE Digital Input products ISO1I811T and ISO1I813T as well as evaluation boards are available now.
