Keywords:SiT8004? power? oscillator? MEMS-based?

SiTime Corp. launches the SiT8004 high frequency oscillator, claiming that the device cuts power consumption by up to 66 percent in networking, video, computing and storage applications.

A drop-in replacement for quartz oscillators, the MEMS-based programmable oscillator features 6.7mA of typical current consumption at 125MHz, which is up to 66 percent lower than that of a standard crystal oscillator. It supports any frequency between 125MHz and 150MHz, and is available in pre-configured options such as 125MHz and 125.00375MHz for GPON, EPON and Gigabit Ethernet; 133MHz and 133.33333MHz for MEMORY (DDR) and PCI; 148.5MHz and 148.35164MHz for HDMI and Pixel clocks; and 150MHz for SATA/SAS.

The SiT8004 also offers the ability to configure the device to any custom frequency with 5 decimal places of accuracy, and receive samples within 1 week. Custom frequencies such as 125.00375MHz (instead of 125MHz) are used for Gigabit Ethernet to improve Bit Error Rate. Its frequency stability goes down to 20PPM, enhancing overall system stability in cloud computing applications.

It is a 100 percent drop-in replacement for quartz solutions in all four industry-standard surface-mount packages: 7 x 5mm, 5 x 3.2mm, 3.2 x 2.5mm and 2.5 x2mm)

It offers robustness with 500 million hours in mean-time-between-failure (MTBF) that is critical to high reliability, fail-safe systems in networking, communication and servers, and are very rugged, with shock resistance of up to 50,000G and vibration resistance of up to 70G.

The SiT8004 is available in high volume production. The list price for 10,000 units of the 125MHz SiT8004 in a 2.5 x 2mm package, 25 PPM stability, industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C) is $0.98.
