IR PFC ICs cut component count

International Rectifier announces the IR115x family of?PFC ICs. The ICs use the company's One Cycle Control (OCC) technology. They offer high PF, low total harmonic distortion and DC Bus regulation while decreasing component count, PCB area and design time compared to traditional solutions.

The ICs are designed to operate in continuous conduction mode Boost PFC converters with average current mode control over 85-264 VAC input line voltage range for a wide variety of AC-DC applications including lighting, LCD/PDP TV and game console switch mode power supplies, fans, air conditioners, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) ranging from 300W to 8kW.

IR115x family

The?PFC ICs offer advanced system-enabling and protective features including dedicated pin for overvoltage protection, cycle by cycle peak current limitation, open loop protection, VCC UVLO and programmable soft-start. The user initiated micropower startup/sleep-mode enables compliance with standby power requirements mandated by regulations such as Energy Star, Green Power and Blue Angel. The IR1152S and IR1153S also feature brown-out protection.

The IR1155S offers programmable switching frequency between 48kHz to 200kHz based on the specific application requirement. The IR1152S and IR1153S offer fixed switching frequency of 66kHz and 22.2kHz respectively. These devices are compatible with IR's Ultrafast and Warp IGBTs for systems with power ratings higher than 750W and switching frequency up to 100kHz.
