Israeli foundry sets up Shanghai branch

In a bid to expand its presence in China's chip market, Israeli firm Tower Semiconductor Ltd has established an office in Shanghai and designated Lei Qin as country manager.

Trading as TowerJazz, the special circuit foundry provides fabless companies in China with RF IC manufacturing services for basestation, GPS and other applications. The company uses its fabs in Israel and California while accessing manufacturing capacity in China.

Tower said it wants to increase its business in China, specifically in the RF market as well as in power management, CMOS image sensors, MEMS and other applications.

Commenting on his appointment, Lei Qin said, "The fabless business in China has grown rapidly and will continue to grow in the future."
