The Multi-Service Business Gateways (MSBGs) is a device that combines data routing, VoIP, switching, security and analog voice interfaces.

According to In-Stat, the global recession has caused chaos across the economy but the MSBG market will be reaching worldwide annual unit shipments toward 1.8 million by 2015.

"The trend towards centralization within the IT world and movement toward cloud and hosted services has had significant impact on the MSBG market across all segments," said Norm Bogen, vice president of Digital Entertainment Research at In-Stat.

"The enterprise is moving more data and services to the central data center and SMBs are relying on service providers to provide hosted services. This trend is driven by cost savings realized as a result of less infrastructure required on site as branch offices and SMBs are able to consolidate multiple services into an MSBG," added Bogen.

In-Stat's report entitled, "Multi-Service Business Gateway Worldwide Market Update," shows some new findings, which include:
???In looking at the new branch and SMB offices opening, as well as estimates of the number of current offices replacing equipment in 2010, In-Stat claims an estimated 27 percent of competitive opportunities resulted in an MSBG purchase.
???The top eight MSBG vendors in 2010, in terms of market share, were Adtran, AudioCodes, Avaya, Cisco, Critical Links, Edgewater Networks, Samsung and Siemens.
???Nearly all MSBGs marketed for enterprise branch office applications will need to provide some form of unified communications functionality.
