Tessera Technologies Inc. has filed a complaint through one of its subsidiaries against Sony Corp. in the California State Court.

The suit, filed in California State Court of Santa Clara County, alleges that Sonya Tessera licenseehas not fully complied with its contractual obligation to pay royalties to Tessera in San Jose, California.

"Under our Agreement with Sony, we have the right to examine and audit Sony's records regarding amounts due, as we typically have with all our licensees," says Robert Young, Tessera's president and CEO.

He adds that, "We are bringing this suit because Sony has not paid all of the royalties owed to us under the contract."

Tessera says that Friday's suit is separate from a patent infringement suit it brought against Tesera and Renesas Electronics Corp. in October U.S. federal court in Delaware. Tessera is currently involved in at least four litigations against semiconductor vendors and other electronics firms.
