Marvell Technology Group Ltd has announced it is shipping a single-chip solution to support China's TD-SCDMA telecommunications standard.

Marvell claims to be the first company that has developed a single-chip solution for TD-SCDMA, used in China as an alternative to W-CDMA. Marvell said TD-SCDMA is designed to enable a wide array of product platforms like smartphones, tablets and MiFi mobile hotspot devices.

"When China Mobile, the world's largest mobile operator, began its mission to build an advanced and affordable smartphone more than three years ago, Marvell was the only major silicon partner who committed to the program because we believed and invested in the bright future of this great opportunity," said Weili Dai, Marvell co-founder.

She added, "Recent introductions of China Mobile's new TD-SCDMA smartphones, tablets and MiFi mobile hotspot devices have the mobile world buzzing."

According to Marvell, its TD-SCDMA solution is designed to deliver 3D graphics, mobile gaming, mobile TV, and high definition video with a unified user experience across different product platforms enabled by the company's Kinoma software. The company said its PXA920 series of products are the industry's first TD-SCDMA solution that combines a high performance application processor and modem to enable low-cost smartphones.
