Dielectric capacitors for high voltage RF apps

AVX Corp. has expanded its HQ Series MLC surface mount RF power capacitors. The company has now include P90 dielectric versions of the capacitors for high power high-frequency applications used in medical and industrial electronics.

The HQ Series MLC with the P90 dielectric material provides equivalent series resistance (ESR) and dissipation factor at high frequencies. It is currently available in C case sizes, with E case sizes available in the third quarter.

The HQ Series power capacitors are designed for 300V to 7,200V applications with dielectric strength of 120 percent of rated WVDC. It is said that the devices can handle the high power and high voltage levels of RF power amplifiers, inductive heating and high magnetic field environments (MRI coils).

"Part of AVX's Hi-Q family of RF capacitors, the HQ Series devices are designed to handle high power and high voltage levels for RF applications," said Larry Eisenberger, product manager at AVX. "Further, the Hi-Q capacitor family is specifically designed to run cooler at high RF current levels, providing superior long term reliability."

AVX said that the HQ Series devices provide medical and industrial electronics experts with the high power and high voltage characteristics necessary for optimal performance. The HQ Series power capacitors have capacity values from 2,700 pF down to 1 pF with a temperature coefficient of 030ppm/�C or 90 30ppm/ �C over the operating temperature range of C55�C to +125�C.
