C&K Components Corp. has developed the K12S Series, a line of IP67-sealed SMT key switches available with LED illumination or double action and detect versions that are designed for harsh environment conditions.

According to C&K Components, the K12S Series can achieve 1,000,000 life cycles on specific versions, making them suitable for automotive, off-road transportation, industrial and medical applications.

"The K12S Series rugged SMT key switches are available with a wide range of customization options to meet virtually any application requirement," stated Gustavo Jimenez, product manager at C&K Components. He added that

the IP67 sealing and extended life features of the series allow it to work for applications in which in-field failure is unacceptable.

The K12S Series is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free. The company said it offers users the flexibility to tailor force values and actuation travel options and provide single pole double throw (SPDT) custom solutions.

The series also features an actuation force range of 1.5N to 9N, with an overload of 100N and a total travel of 1.5mm, and has a double-action design for sharp tactile feedback on both actions.

The key switches operate at a temperature range of -40C to 85C and feature a max power rating of 3WDC and a min/max voltage of 2VC30VDC with a min/max current rating of 10uAC100mA.

The K12S Series is also available in an IP40-rated package for less demanding applications.
