Torex Semiconductor Ltd has unveiled two 400mA synchronous step-down DC/DC converters〞XC9244 and XC9245 series〞that are housed in ultra-small 1.3 x 1.3 x 0.4mm USPN-6 package. According to the company, the space-efficient converters trim down mounting area. This can be attributed to the converters having only a coil and two capacitors as external components.

The DC/DC converters can be selected in steps of 0.05V and operate at a voltage range of 2.3每6V with ㊣2.0 percent accuracy, and output voltage range of 0.8每4V with ㊣2.0 percent precision. The XC9244 series is PWM control, providing a stable switching frequency (90 percent TYP.) that minimizes output ripple. The XC9245 series is PWM/PFM auto switching control, providing high efficiency and low output ripple over the full load range, the company stated. Additionally, a 3.2 x 3.0 x h1.2mm external coil and a 1608 size external capacitor can be used since the devices deliver a switching frequency of 1.2MHz, Torex added.

Both series incorporate a 0.25ms (TYP.) high-speed soft-start function and has a stand-by current is one microampere or less. The CL high-speed discharge function turns on the internal switch between VOUT and VSS during standby to quickly discharge the CL load capacitor. The current limiting (700mA MIN.) and a UVLO function that forces the internal driver transistor off at an input voltage of 2.25V (MAX.) or less are incorporated as protection functions.
