Texas Instruments Inc. has released what it claims as a highly integrated clock generator that delivers the industry's best jitter performance. The LMK03806 has an output frequency range of 2.37MHz-2.6GHz and provides clocking support for all of the components on a typical line card, touted TI.

The LMK03806 can synthesize required clock frequencies from a single low-cost crystal. This enables a reduction in component count by up to 80 percent and BOM by up to 50 percent, while improving performance of legacy solutions, noted the company.

The LMK03806 simplifies timing architectures in wired and optical communications line cards by simultaneously synthesizing seven independent frequencies on 14 outputs. Its sub-50fs rms jitter at 312.5MHz output frequency improves bit error rate and carrier-to-noise ratio performance. Each output clock is independently configurable, eliminating the need for level translators and fanout buffers.

The companion LMK00301 differential fanout buffer/level translator accepts a single-ended, differential or crystal input. It produces 10 added buffered copies of the input clocks of up to 3GHz in LVDS, LVPECL or HCSL format. The device features best-in-class jitter performance, generating 51fs rms jitter at 156.25MHz, and less than 30fs rms at 312.5MHz output frequency when paired with LMK03806, TI claimed. This flexibility allows clock designers to address markets that include wireless infrastructure and industrial applications.

The LMK03806 is available in a 9 x 9mm, 64-pin LLP package for a suggested retail price of $7.95 in 1,000-unit quantities. Also available is the LMK00301 in a 7 x 7mm, 48-pin LLP package for a suggested retail price of $2.95 in 1,000-unit quantities.
