Emcore Corp.'s primary contract manufacturer is the latest victim of the massive floods in Thailand. Several companies have already temporarily ceased their operations and Emcore has announced that the rising flood waters have penetrated the manufacturer's production facility, forcing the fab to close down. The closure will likely last through the fourth quarter.

Emcore did not identify the contract manufacturer. Rising water entered the contract manufacturer's facility over the weekend, including the areas used to build Emcore's fiber optic products. The water submerged manufacturing, as well as test equipment. Emcore has assured that all of its employees are safe. It has also put together a cross-functional team to manage the issue and to work on ramping up capabilities to manufacture some products at its own facilities.

Emcore said that the flood damage will have a significant impact in its operations. It will also be challenging for the company to meet customer demand for its fiber optic products in the first quarter.
