The research firm pointed out how in the market for inexpensive TV sets, there is huge demand for the lowest-cost semiconductor solutions offered by Taiwan makers. It said the Taiwan firms have therefore benefited from increasing cost pressure in the low end of the TV market.
"We think [Taiwan's proximity] to the overall value chain is one of the keys to Taiwan's success," stated Hanfei Lin, MStar CFO. "We can react to market dynamics faster and understand the end market's needs better to build up a complete ecosystem."
Lin attributed his company's achievements in the TV chip sector to its "...broad and comprehensive solution offerings, SoC approach that integrates more features and functionalities than competitors, strong customer support to provide differentiated solutions within a very short time-to-market lead time, and competitive cost structure."
MStar's product portfolio runs from low-end, basic analog TV to cutting edge high-end applications, including connected TV and smart TV, said the company. Other products include multimedia ATV, connected ATV, 3D HDMI ATV, iDTV, multimedia DTV and 3D DTV.
MediaTek is a fabless semiconductor company for digital multimedia solutions. The firm claims to be a market leader and pioneer in cutting-edge SoC system solutions for wireless communications, HDTV, optical storage, DVD and Blu-ray products.
