NXP Semiconductors N.V. has rolled what it touts as the industry's first medium power transistors in a 2 x 2mm 3-pin leadless DFN SMD package. According to the company that claims to be driven by miniaturization in chip design, the devices offer a flexible solution for designs focusing on space saving, energy efficiency and low heat dissipation.

The BC69PA transistor is designed for general-purpose power-sensitive applications in mobile, automotive, industrial and household appliances. The company added that the DFN2020-3 (SOT1061) packaging can save up to 80 percent more space on the PCB compared to conventional SOT89 packages while maintaining electrical performance of up to 2A. When mounted on modern 4-layer PCBs, its thermal performance matches much bigger standard SMD packages and allows Ptot levels of up to 1.1W in a tiny footprint, added NXP.

The power transistors feature VCEO from 20-80V and collector current capability IC up to 2A and ICM up to 3A. The devices are also automotive AEC Q101 qualified.

The medium power transistors are available for $0.10 in high volume orders.
